Projects Created in Public Relations Writing
LEGO Infographic
For my Public Relations Writing course, each student was assigned a "client" for the semester that all projects would be based around. All clients were toy companies and they were simply hypothetical clients for us to work with. My client was The LEGO Group, and I wanted my projects to use similar colors, fonts, and style and provide a fun feel. The first project was an infographic informing publics of some aspect of the company that was not sale related. I chose to focus on the environmental partnership that LEGO hold with World Wildlife Foundation. The infographic flow through different topics, providing information on the partnership itself and goals for the future for reducing carbon emissions.

LEGO NewsletterThis newsletter was created to provide external publics with information on the hypothetical 60th anniversary celebration of the LEGO brick. This simple, two page publication combines fun facts about the company, its mission and vision, and looks back on the event. This only contained one feature article, 700-800 words in length, to give an overall report of the celebration. The article was more narrative and creative than other PR Writing assignments.

LEGO BrochureFor this project, the brochure provides information on a partnership between LEGO and Children's Miracle Network. Again, this is a hypothetical situation, however it does contain many facts about both companies as well. In order to help raise money for CMN, LEGO created special anniversary brick sets called "Build a Miracle" for which they will donate 50 percent of revenue to CMN. LEGO also gave out these sets to various CMN hospitals and employees volunteered to spend time with children. The brochure needed to provide all of this information yet still portray that this is a fun toy company.

LEGO Media Kit
A huge project containing many elements was the media kit. Different pieces included a news release, social media release, media advisory, backgrounder, biographies, fact sheet, and pitch letter all focused around the 60th anniversary celebration. Please click the arrow on the slideshow to the left to view the various parts of the media kit.

LEGO Web Writing
This portion includes three parts: website writing, blog writing and social media writing. Each of these are important skills to understand in public relations today. The website contains a home page and links to four other pages based around the anniversary year (the kickoff party, the contest, the CMN partnership and a new play lounge for a hospital). The social media posts use Facebook and Twitter to reach publics on a variety of topics related to the celebration year as well. The blog allowed for creativity and practically any topic of choice. I chose to write on LEGO's environmental initiative and partnership with WWF, as also reflected in the infographic listed above. Click through the photos on the right to check out the website and look below for the social media and blog posts.
